Role Purpose

The Senior Manager – DPO is responsible for overseeing the firm’s data protection and privacy framework across its insurance broking activities in Ireland. The role ensures that all personal data (including special category data) relating to clients, prospects, policyholders, claimants, employees and other stakeholders is processed in line with relevant regulations.  The Senior Manager – DPO will also assist the Head of Compliance and Op Risk in the rollout of the Compliance Framework.  The role with include team management of the Team of Compliance/Op Risk Professionals.


Accountabilities of the Role

  • Develop, maintain and oversee the data protection framework, policies and procedures in line with Group policies

  • Maintain and regularly review the Record of Processing Activities (RoPA) in line with EU GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018

  • Compliance lead for the retention project and other business initiatives as appropriate.

  • Act as the main point of contact for data protection queries from the business.

  • Lead and oversee Data Protection Impact Assessments (DPIAs) and Legitimate Interests Assessments (LIAs) for new or changed processing activities, systems, platforms and data sharing arrangements within Ireland.

  • Act as a primary point of contact with the Data Protection Commission on data protection matters, inspections and queries, and support interactions with the CBI where data protection issues intersect with prudential or conduct supervision.

  • Monthly meetings with business areas and Marketing. Discussing regular bau agenda items.  Reviewing complaint trend analysis for the relevant business areas in line with CPC provisions. Dealing with queries as they arise from the business about general compliance/legislative matters as well as noting any compliance issues that have arisen for the relevant area.

  • Assist the Head of Compliance and Operational Risk in the rollout of the Compliance Framework.

  • Team Management. Manage the compliance calendar plan. Objectives and reviews, weekly team meetings, allocation of work items, dealing with escalated queries from the team in respect of marketing, errors, breaches or new business practices, CPC 2025 or relevant legislation.

  • Oversight of monthly, quarterly  and annual reporting.

Skills, Experience and Behavioural Competencies Required

  • LCOI, QFA and a relevant qualification in Data Protection are required upon commencement in the role

  • Strong knowledge of EU GDPR and the Irish Data Protection Act 2018, Irish ePrivacy rules and electronic marketing requirements including their application to insurance intermediaries.

  • 10 years’ experience with specific expertise in, privacy, compliance or risk role within the financial services industry in Ireland

  • Proven experience in designing and embedding data protection controls and managing DSARs, DPIAs and personal data breach investigations.

  • Indepth knowledge of the Central Bank of Ireland regulatory requirements relevant to intermediaries (e.g. Consumer Protection Code, Minimum Competency Code, Fitness and Probity, Outsourcing Guidelines)

  • Strong analytical, advisory and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to provide risk based, commercial advice.

  • Ability to manage and motivate a team in a busy environment.

  • Confidence in their own knowledge to be able to advise the business.

  • Ability to work on own initiative while also able to collaborate with colleagues.

  • Attention to detail.

  • Conveys information clearly and concisely.

  • Willing to speak up and make suggestions.

  • Good organisational skills.

Controlled Function


This role is a ‘controlled function’ as defined by the Central Bank Reform Act 2010 Regulations 2011. Any appointment will be conditional on the company being satisfied that the appointee meets the requirements as set out in the Fitness and Probity standards issued by the Central Bank. This requires the company to complete prescribed due diligence to assess the appointee’s fitness and probity.
